Life Lessons from a Global Pandemic

Updated: Nov 14, 2020
What is Normal?

In today’s world our new reality is making sure you grab your keys, wallet and now your mask. You can’t go anywhere without a mask. This has been heavily enforced so it is now our new normal. We can be hopeful for a time where COVID 19 is no longer a threat, but let's be real with ourselves for a moment. COVID 19 came and took over the entire world, shutting down everything in its passing. Businesses have filed for bankruptcy and closed down, (including my second job), students are now operating through a hybrid model, People are mourning the lost of loved ones, So many places are still shut down such as the courts, movie theaters, DMV, etc. Social distancing has been enforced, where strangers are asked to keep a 6 feet distance to avoid the spread of COVID. Personally, I’ve grown to appreciate this because in NY we’re so congested and crowded people don’t respect personal space. One thing that COVID has regulated and normalized is the importance of personal space and respect. Heavy on the RESPECT, like covering your mouth on the train when you cough. People are not conscious to do these things which I believe allowed the virus to spread expeditiously.

Post COVID 19, I was working two part tiobs. One job I worked 7am-12pm, the second job I was working 2pm- 6pm. I had the weekends to myself which is what I loved because I do not like clocking in on weekends. If it's not for your own business I do not recommend working on weekends. Especially Sundays! I remember how I felt waking up at 5a.m, for work, never wanting to leave my bed. Outside was always dark so it gave me anxiety. I always complained about working this job, although I enjoyed what I do, it wasn’t fulfilling and waking up at 5a.m only allowed me to dwell in my misery. I subconsciously manifested no longer working this job, When COVID hit, my job shut down and I got compensated while I started working from home for the second job. The first couple of weeks I relished working from home. I slept in on most days, I binge watched shows,I was eating a lot, however I did not gain any Quarantine weight. I had days where I checked in to see what was going on in the world, however it was just bad news on top of bad news. It was honestly very depressing to see what was going on around me. I started to wonder what God was trying to teach us, I don’t believe this all happened in vain, I mean the entire world shutdown.
These are the Life lessons I took from this global pandemic.

Life Lessons
1. Do not take people for granted.
We have grieved the loss for our loved ones, a lot of the deaths were sudden in which no one saw it coming. One day you’re on the phone with someone, and then by morning they’re gone. Cherish good friendships and in return be a good friend as well. I have closed myself off to a lot of friends that have taken my friendship for granted.
2. It's okay to Cut off toxic family members.
We are in a sensitive time where family should be your coven. We all have family members with toxic traits about them whether it's a cousin, aunt, brother, sister or even your mother. They may exhibit behaviors that can be damaging to your mental health. Set your boundaries and love from afar. Life is too short to be dealing with nonsense. I will stress this in my next blog post. Family vs. Relatives so stay tuned!!
3. Stop complaining….Make a Plan
I often complained about my job, and did nothing about it. I knew I was unhappy and would forever be unhappy working for someone else, being an “employee” wasn’t fulfilling for me. I have my own ideas, my own goals, I am creative. I am now starting to get into the habit of finding solutions, rather than being burdened by the problem. I am currently working on a two year plan to create my own business. See you in two years (wink, wink).
4. Discover your purpose:Your life is not in vain.
It’s such a blessing to remain in existence, after a global pandemic. Why take it for granted? You were created with a divine purpose designed by God. Your life will have so much meaning when you’re living in your purpose. Life has plenty to offer but yet we get caught up in the materials, social media and things that probably won’t matter tomorrow. If you take away the name brands, and social media, what would you have to offer the world? Who would you be?
5. Love Yourself fiercely.
I have learned that people treat you how you treat yourself and through that life lesson I started to take myself more seriously. I am unlearning a lot of things. and putting standards and boundaries into place. I've learned that I have a low tolerance and I am learning how to be patient. We all deserve to be treated with love and genuinity. However it's no guarantee the people you surround yourself with, have the same mindset. Cut them loose. You deserve an abundance of love in a world that hates you and wants you to hate yourself. Love yourself and surround yourself with matching energy only.
6. Look on the bright Side of things.
Take this time for yourself to figure out what your purpose is, where do you see your life heading….and I am not talking about having a house, car and husband/wife. What are you going to make out of your life? Life has a deeper meaning. You should want to live rather than just exist, don’t waste it.
Life Lessons are not to ruin your life, where you’re depressed and drowning in low vibrations. Life lessons are essential to your growth, so you can learn from your mistakes and do better. Evolve into your better self. Every day I am striving to be a better version of myself, and you should do the same.

Took so many gems from this, Thank you.
