Where I've Been?

I’m in my late 20s.

A mere season 20 and 7. ( Bridgerton reference)

There are only three months left in the year and here I am yet again reflecting on my journey thus far.

Upon reflecting I acknowledge and thank God for all I have to be grateful for. I am currently working full time in the heart of New York fashion. I have a beautiful one bedroom apartment in the most multicultural borough, Brooklyn. I’m sustaining healthy and committed relationships with my peers and circle of friends. I am in a committed relationship. However, I still find myself wrestling with these daunting questions:

Where am I going? How do I get to where I want to be?

In the first 7 years of my 20s

I’ve learned a lot and I’m proud to say I’ve grown and matured, although I can’t take all the credit.

Life has humbled me in so many ways.

My transition out of my parents’ house allowed me to find myself and enjoy the freedom of life rule-free. My dream to work in fashion was commensurate within retail all the while attending school full time. But, I didn’t have a clear direction of where I was going, I just went with the flow of life taken a breeze all over NYC. I lived uptown in the Bronx and Harlem for some time and now I’m back in my city Brooklyn with a newfound sense of gratification, and it’s time to take myself more seriously.

Where do I want to be?

I live in a great city with endless possibilities. My early 20s were spent figuring things out. I worked a mirage of jobs and would move on to the next at any slight inconvenience to myself. My sole focus was on the check. Nothing more and definitely nothing less. I’ve met some of the best people, and formed many friendships. My previous work environment was not fitting for a stylish and quaint personality like myself. I didn’t see myself growing and my talents were withering the more time I spent folding cashmere while the warden watched over us making sure we didn’t smile or speak out of turn.

I sold clothes, not save babies. It was never that serious. So I packed my bag and leaped on my chariot (the subway cart) moving on to the next. I pondered the nuance of working full time and the way it consumes the majority of your week. I mean it’s five days! And if the pay is not adding up, is it really worth the headache? No ma' am. This is NYC baby and somewhere is always hiring. Trust your skills and God given talent.

Everyone deserves a reset, so I decided to give myself one. One of my goals is to go into the new year debt free and now with starting with a new job with better pay, I have no time to waste. Did you know if you start your day in the early morning, let’s say 7a.m (5a.m if you’re really about that life) you gain more hours in the day? I am guilty of overly sleeping in and labeling it as self care. I thought I needed the rest to take on a long day, but what I really needed was a routine to build my strength, motivation and creativity.

My current work environment is a creative’s playground. I am where I need to be in this stage in my life. I am intrigued to see what I’m able to create while on this journey.
