Fashion trends for Spring 2023

This year, Winter in New York City hasn’t been what we’re used to. We enjoyed 50 and 60 degree weather throughout January and February and hardly any major snow. I like to call it summer in Winter, as New Yorkers walk around with their jackets open, scarfs tucked in their bags all while exposing a slight tease of leg. Is it possible we will be entering spring of 2023 without a trace of snow? I mean no snow blizzards, no black ice, no shoveling, will this be NYC's first snow free winter? Now we’re in March and after enduring a frigid winter I’m sure we’re all anticipating a seasonal climate change.
With a new season approaching, this means new fashion trends are arising, and I’m excited to share what will be trending for spring 2023. I’ve spent some time conducting research from the Fashion experts of Elle, and whowhatwear. I even took notes while watching runway shows on YouTube. The goal is not to be trendy, but to incorporate trends in your closet to keep your wardrobe current and fresh.
TRENDS:
The Y2K aesthetic has made a comeback in 2022 and has gained a lot of popularity with Gen Z as they experiment with fashion, while also acting as a nostalgia moment for millennials to indulge in their favorite y2k trends from their early years. I’m not sure how long this aesthetic will remain on trend, but these items are becoming wardrobe staples and will be great transitional pieces throughout the seasons.
Cargo pants
Cargos are trending as brands design different renditions. From the runway to retail and fast fashion. This spring, look forward to even more pockets, and lighter fabric. They are easy to wear unlike your everyday denim. They can be styled casual for a street wear look or dressed up with any sequined top and your favorite heels or boot.

2. Maxi Skirts
Maxi skirts were worn throughout the 2000s. The Indie and afrocentric divas rocked their floor length maxi’s with their headwraps and tube tops. If you are a mini skirt lover, I want to entice you by adding a maxi skirt to your wardrobe. A basic or neutral color styled with a matching top can give a minimalist simple and chic look.

Drop - Waist dresses & skirts.
The 90s is the most popular decade when it comes to fashion, but this Spring we’re getting a splash of 80s with drop waist dresses and skirts. This is my personal favorite, as I like to experiment with my style. I like the dramatics of the long waist into a dramatic umbrella poof at the bottom.

The Color of the season.
The Color of the season to look out for is Acid green or Key lime green. I wouldn’t describe it as neon green but this bright green has been recurring on the runway for designers spring/summer 23 collections.
If you’re not afraid of color, I challenge you to incorporate this color into your wardrobe. Green is one of my favorite colors and no matter the shade you will always look like money. Will you be adding this Bold color to your wardrobe this Spring?
Okay…. If green is not your color, In my next blog I will be sharing the colors for Spring 2023.

Prints and texture
This Spring let's put aside the floral prints and say hello to this 3D blurry print. This blurry blend of colors gives an elevated tye dye look, or an ombré effect. The Kai Collective is one of my favorite brands who have used this print in her collection; dresses, tops, bathing suits and skirts.

Everything Sheer
Honestly can Sheer ever go out of style?
Transitioning into warmer weather, shear is a lightweight easy material. This year I’ll be looking to add sheer turtlenecks, blouses and dresses. Layered and styled the right way your outfit can become a work of art.

Trends for the Minimalist
Fashion has been transitioning to be more sustainable. Our wardrobe can become more sustainable by investing in timeless pieces that surpedes trends. Basics are trending with an elevated approach. You can style your basics with the top matching the bottom for a monochromatic clean effortless look. Simplicity can also be stylish and fashion forward without being over the top.

Supersized blazers
Blazers are a wardrobe staple. It’s the perfect transition piece for the season transition. This spring blazers will be getting bigger and better giving it a supersized look.

Simple & Sleek Crisp Tailoring
A classic suit is a wardrobe staple. Every woman should have at least one suit in their closet. It’s giving, boss babe!
And no she doesn’t mess around!
A tailored blazer with the matching crisp tailored trouser, serves a look and is functional. They can be mixed and matched with different pieces in your wardrobe, such as a slip dress, or denim jeans.
Simple doesn’t mean boring. With clean lines, crisp tailoring and beautiful materials the classic suit will be anything but boring.

To conclude, I have a love and hate relationship with Spring because of my awful spring allergies. However I do enjoy the balance of warm and cool air in the spring. I plan on going thrifting real soon to prepare my wardrobe for spring.
So stay tuned.
Thank you for reading.
And if you read to the end show some love.
Peace
LaShai Antoinette.
